Jean-Michel Othoniel's artwork is rooted in abstraction and contemplation, creating forms that are inherently poetic. Mixing polished metal with mirrored glass, Othoniel's knot sculptures demonstrate the perfect balance between their shape, the beads, and the reflections among them. The artist is fascinated by the mathematical combinations of reflections endlessly multiplied. The rotations of the beads create gesture and movement within the glass and aluminum sculptures, through which the artist highlights the intrinsic beauty and variability of his invented knots. Recently, Jean-Michel Othoniel has held solo exhibitions at the Center Cultural Néstor Kirchner in Buenos Aires and at the Château La Coste in France. He also exhibited at the Louvre Museum with a new series of site-specific paintings created for the thirtieth anniversary of the Louvre Pyramid, which subsequently entered the museum’s permanent collection.
